Alpha- Usually there are two within a pack, although sometimes there is only one. They are dominant over all the rest of the pack and what they say should be considered law within their pack. They are not required to hunt with the pack, but normally will. They demand respect and are in the position to exile, banish, or even kill those who do not show it.
Beta- There may be one or two in a pack. When neither Alpha(s) are around they take charge as it is the responsibility that falls to them. The job of the Betas is to serve as an adviser/helper to the Alpha(s) exclusively, and to help them greet newcomers to the pack. If both of the alpha die than the Beta(s) take the Alpha position and lead the pack, unless the alpha has said otherwise. This position cannot be challenged without the alpha approval. Delta- They are the messengers of the pack, the go between among the allies. They don't take part of Scout missions, being that they aren't there to spy, solely to pass messages to and fro. They must make sure that those who need to know are told. They are responsible for breaking up pack disputes if the Beta and/or Alpha don't step in. When a Beta dies, it's normally a Delta who takes the position unless the Alpha says otherwise. They train to be the next Beta if anything were to happen. Zeta- The War General of the pack. They take direct orders from the Alpha in case of a war. The Alpha may be the one to declare war, but the Zeta leads the army and plan the plans for war. Normally there is only a single Zeta. Healer- They attend to sickness and wounds in the pack. Can only be three of these. Lead Hunter- They make sure that the entire pack is well fed and will not starve. They lead the hunts, decide where to hunt, and round up the hunters for it. They're responsible for keeping the Betas and Alphas up to date on where their prey is or will be. Sometimes they even ask the Alphas to join them. They are also responsible for the training of new Hunters. |
Warriors- They are led by the Zeta, although they will take orders from the Alpha or other higher ranks if given, but the Alpha's above all. They are the guardians and protectors of the pack. The warriors will roam the pack lands ensuring it's safety.
Hunters- Those who hold this position are loyal and quick to follow orders. They have stealth and agility on their side and together are able to take down larger prey. They normally will not hunt without the Lead Hunter's permission. Sigma- The tutors. They have a vast knowledge of many things and often teach the pups and subordinates so they find their place within the pack. They don't provide the experience a Lead Hunter/Scout, Zeta, or Healer would give, but they provide a basic run through of each rank. For newer members, they also help with settling them into pack life. Lead Scout- They are known as the best of the scouts and only those who've proven themselves may be promoted from scout to this position. They pass orders from the Alphas to the scouts on whom to spy upon or what packs to look at. They do not interact with the pack they are sent to spy on. However their direct orders come from the Alphas and/or Betas. A failure in any mission could cause the Lead Scout to lose their position. When the Lead Scout is not present on the mission, they are still held accountable for the outcome. They are also responsible for the training of new Scouts. Scouts- Spies of the pack. They go into other pack territories in order to find out what's going on. Afterwards, they report back to the Alpha and tell them about all that they have seen, even should it just be that pups have been born. They do not interact with the other pack at all. Scouts are also sent out in search of a better territory when the Alpha calls upon a pack move. They make sure the territory is safe for the pack before moving there. |
Lower Ranks
Pup Sitters- Delight in teaching the young skills that they will need in the future. However, if a pup gets lost or hurt they are held accountable should the pup have been under their care at that time.
Subordinates- Usually new members or yearling wolves start here and must prove themselves before they are given a better ranking. However they need to be careful and achieve a higher ranking or they become the Omega. They interact with the Sigma a lot times in order to find where they belong in the pack. Omega- They are the scapegoats of a pack. Often they are picked on by the other wolves and are last to eat. Sometimes things may become so bad that they might even up and leave the pack, though there are those who remain to stick it out. They are placed in this position if they've done anything to disrespect the alpha. Sometimes a new member may be placed with this rank if the Alpha is a bit mistrustful of them. Another reason they are placed here is when they failed at achieving a higher ranking while they were Subordinates. |
Pups
They are the young usually born into the pack under the age of one. Depending upon morality and the attitude of a pack as well as the food that is available the number of pups in any pack may vary.
